NORTH

Childrenswear Collection
         This childrenswear collection was created by my team of peers. Our logo was a star that we noticed looked like the North Star. It was then that NORTH was born. NORTH represents individuals from different backgrounds who came together through fate, who have ended up working to develop a brand filled with diversity. "If you are lost, head North and you will always find your way home." We have interpreted this phrase into our brand ethos so that anyone can feel at home when they choose NORTH. Through this brand, we hope to inspire connection, community, and lead our consumers into the future of design.

Market Analysis (2022): Children’s Wear

 

           Children’s wear produces a great deal of profit in the apparel industry. Referring to the apparel designed for kids belonging to the age group of 0 months to 12 years, it is often more casual than adult clothing as it is created to function for play and rest. Furthermore, cotton and hosiery are the commonly used fabrics for kid's clothing. In recent years, social media has been a big influence on clothing trends, especially in children’s wear. Parents are using platforms such as instagram to post themselves and their children in matching outfits. Dolce & Gabbana influenced this trend to create miniature and age appropriate versions of adult clothing (IMARC, 2019). Twinning with children is gaining an extreme amount of popularity in the market.

    An advantage the industry has is that parents are constantly buying clothes for their kids (Retail Brew, 2022). The increasing population is a key factor driving the growth of the market. There is a rising demand for premium and branded apparel as parents want high quality and comfortable clothing for their kids. Furthermore, as children have started to spend just as much or even more time on the internet and social media, they begin to create their own self awareness in how they would like to dress. Parents are willing to buy the clothing that their kids want with less worry about the cost (Mordor Intelligence, 2022).

Online retail has strongly aided in the profit increase of apparel markets such as children’s wear since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Children’s wear is expected to overtake the market of women’s wear and men’s wear in terms of increased retail value (Mordor Intelligence, 2022). Parents with a higher disposable income are also key to driving growth in the market. New customizations and innovative ideas combined with affordable pricing of children’s apparel will aid in growth as well.

    Global children’s wear is highly competitive. Some of the major brands in the market include Carter’s Inc., Adidas AG, Benetton Group, The Gap Inc., Nike, and Disney Consumer Products. Key brands are focusing on expanding their companies by offering new apparel designs that cater to the demographic segment of consumers. Companies will create clothes that appeal to the person buying the clothes for the kids to wear. Luxury children’s wear brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, and Gucci offer products in the Middle East and North America. This growing expansion will soon influence market growth in Africa (Mordor Intelligence, 2022).

    Designer children’s wear ranges in price from $100 - $300. Our collection will be based on the idea of creating high quality children’s wear for a less expensive price. All of the fabrics included will be organic, sustainable to the planet, and healthy for the child. The prices will compete with Carter’s Inc. by being in a similar price range, but providing more designer looks. Children’s wear has evolved to children dressing like mini adults. The NORTH collection provides more adult styles while also being kid friendly in the safety and fit elements incorporated for children’s wear.
